Your next chapter has an open road in front of it.

Open Range Assets helps people over 55 plan the move: hitting the road full time, settling into an active adult community, or doing a little of both.

Path 1 · RV Living

The house goes where you go.

Full-time RVers trade square footage for scenery. Done right, it can cost less than keeping a house, and you wake up somewhere new whenever you like.

  • Bring the toad. A towed vehicle like a Jeep Wrangler rides four-wheels-down behind a coach, so you can park the big rig and still explore.
  • Choose a domicile. Where you claim residency affects taxes, vehicle registration, insurance, and mail. Decide it on purpose.
  • Mix your stays. Monthly rates at RV resorts often run far below nightly rates. Many full-timers alternate long stays with travel weeks.

Class A29 to 45 ftFull-timers who want home-sized living space and plan to tow a car
Bus conversion40 to 45 ftTravelers who want a coach chassis built for millions of highway miles
Fifth wheel30 to 44 ftLong seasonal stays, with the truck free for day trips
Class C21 to 35 ftCouples easing in, part-time travel, easier driving and parking
Class B18 to 24 ftWeekend trips and travelers who want to fit in a regular parking space

Path 2 · 55+ Communities

Neighbors at the same stage of life.

Active adult communities trade the yard work for clubhouses, pickleball, and people who are free on a Tuesday afternoon.

  • Read the HOA documents. Fees, rental rules, and what the dues actually cover vary widely from one community to the next.
  • Ask about RV parking. Some communities ban it. Others build in RV garages or on-site storage lots.
  • Visit twice. Once on a weekday, once on a weekend. Talk to residents at the pool or the mailbox.
  • Look at the RV resort option. Some 55+ RV resorts sell deeded lots, so you own your spot and travel the rest of the year.

Path 3 · Retirement Life

Less to keep up. More to look forward to.

Whether you roll or settle, the planning starts in the same place: what you keep, what you let go, and what you want your days to hold.

Downsize

Sort the house room by room. Decide what goes with you, what goes to family, and what gets sold.

Learn the steps

Online courses and virtual workshops walk you through each stage of the transition at your own pace.

Budget the move

Plan for fuel, site fees, insurance, maintenance, and HOA dues before you commit to either path.

Stay connected

Mail forwarding, mobile internet, doctors on the road, and a plan for seeing the grandkids.

Path 4 · Travel

Follow the weather. See the country.

Retirement is the first time many people can travel on their own calendar. Go in the off season, stay as long as you like, and skip the crowds.

  • Get the Senior Pass. The National Park Service sells a lifetime America the Beautiful Senior Pass to U.S. citizens and permanent residents age 62 and older. It covers entrance fees at national parks and many federal recreation sites.
  • Travel with a group. RV clubs host caravans and rallies, a friendly way to try new places with people who already know the ropes.
  • Leave the rig home sometimes. River cruises, rail journeys, and fly-in trips are a nice change of pace between road seasons.
  • Plan around the season. Book popular parks and coastal resorts early. Shoulder seasons bring lower rates and quieter trails.
